We have recently found a fruit that shares the same name as us!
Botanically known as Cynometra Cauliflora, NamNam is an uncommon fruit tree in Singapore. It is native to Malaysia and it can be found in South East Asia, India and Sri Lanka. It grows on a shrub with many branches and can grow up to 15 metres tall. It is classified in the same family of the common ‘Groundnut’ or peanut.
The young fruit is very sour but the acid content is observed to decrease with maturity of the fruit. It is cooked with sugar to make compote. It can also be made into a fruit salad, picked, or be used to prepare a sambal. The fruits are reported to have useful medicinal properties too and are used in folk medicinal preparation. The seeds yield oil which is used in India for the treatment of skin diseases. So, now we are having an iconic native brand mascot Nam Nam fruit!
